The Clique

I haven’t seen this film in a long time. I was living in the UK and I wasn’t even a teenager yet when I first saw the film. It is one of the films that I enjoyed watching as a kid. I remember seeing the film for the very first time. It has everything that I wanted to see in a Teen Comedy.

L to R: Alicia Rivera (Boscarino), Dylan Marvil (Everhard), Massie Block (McLaughlin), Kristen Gregory (Mendler), and Claire Lyons (Marlow)

The Clique (2008) is a Teen Comedy based on the book of the same name. The film is centered around five teenaged girls: Massie, Claire, Alicia, Dylan, and Kristen. Claire is the new girl who recently moved into Massie’s guest house. Massie meets Chris Abeley during her time horseback riding. It doesn’t take long until Claire meets him too. Claire then meets Layne Abeley. The two instantly becomes friends. However, Massie pretends to befriend Layne in order to humiliate Claire and get a lot closer to Chris. Massie’s dislike for Claire comes from their argument at the beginning of the film.

The Tyra Banks produced film stars a young Bridgit Mendler as Kristen Gregory. One of the popular girls in Octavian Country Day. These girls calls themselves the Pretty Committee. I love the fact that she plays someone who has a scholarship to a private school instead of someone who has a lot of money. This makes the character interesting and makes the film stand out from other films.

I related to Claire because of how much she worked to become one of the most popular girls in school. I also related to her because of how she is different from other girls. Those are the reasons why I related to her. She is unlike the other girls in the film who are mean to her. I was someone who used to be like Claire. I don’t know who to explain it but people like Claire tends to get overlooked and misunderstood by the other girls in the film. She’s someone who would put other people’s needs before her own. It is Bridgit Mendler’s character who realizes that her secret is safe with Claire and not with Massie.

I give the movie a five out of five stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Because of how relatable the film is.
