Take It From Taylor

Take it from Taylor Swift to write about what matters to her. From her mother’s battle with breast cancer, to something super random like drinking alcohol. Everything that every eighteen year olds and older does in bars and clubs around the world. Drink wine, drink beer, drink cider, and drink a cocktail drinks. Crying at the back of an Uber with your best friend. It’s all encoded in her music.

Here’s my favourite lyrics from all eighteen tracks of Lover (2019):

  • “I thought that it would kill me, but it didn’t and it was so nice so peaceful and quiet. I forgot that you existed.”
  • “Hang your head low in the glow of the vending machine. I’m not dying.”
  • “You’ll save all your dirtiest jokes for me.”
  • “I’d be a fearless leader. I’d be an alpha type. When everyone believes ya, what’s that like?”
  • “I wake in the night, I pace like a ghost. The room is on fire, invisible smoke.”
  • “I am an architect, I’m drawing up the plan.”
  • “The whole school is rolling fake dice.”
  • “I’m with you even if it makes me blue.”
  • “We were a fresh page on the desk. Filling in the blanks as we go.”
  • “I dress to kill my time, I take the long way home.”
  • “They say home is where the heart is but God, I love the English.”
  • “I know delusion when I see it in the mirror.”
  • “They say the road gets hard and you get lost.”
  • “Comparing all the girls who are killing it but we figured you out, we all know now we all got crowns.”
  • “Went off like sirens, just crying.”
  • “I’m the only one of me.”
  • “Rice on the ground looks like snow.”
  • “I’ve been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night.”
