Marion Crane: A Hitchcock Feminist

I’ve never seen the television series, Bates Motel in its entirety but I have stepped into a wormhole of YouTubing clips for the show for judgements in Classic Film knowledge of this modern take of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960). Even though I have not seen the film yet, I’ve only seen one episode of Bates Motel, more specifically Rihanna’s episode of Bates Motel.

The Infamous Shower Scene

Everyone knows that famous shower scene from Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho (1960) without even watching the film itself.

Marion Crane (played by Janet Leigh in 1960’s Psycho) makes her way towards the shower after a long day. Keep in mind that she’s already checked into Bates Motel — a motel run by two psychotic killers, Norman and Norma Bates.

Let’s not forget that A&E’s Bates Motel established an incest-ious relationship between Norman and Norma Bates which fitted the world that Hitchcock had previously created.

When we think of Psycho, the first thing that we think of is Marion Crane and the shower scene that ended her life.

There’s still a lot to dig up about the world of Psycho and Marion Crane is one of them.

What Did Marion Crane Do With The Money?

If you are well aware of how Marion Crane got to Bates Motel, you’d know that she was asked to deposit the money into a bank. It’s another story to uncover but based on what we all know… She kept it! We don’t know why. We don’t know any of her intensions besides the fact that she had to deposit the money.

So, did Marion Crane actually kept the money?

It’s a possibility!
